Somewhere along the way in 2022, I decided to take up letterpress printing. I always thought it was pretty interesting, and I’ve always been drawn to printmaking. So in a lot of ways it totally makes sense that this would be the art form I would really take the time to learn and study.
Letterpress can be messy, quick and ephemeral which I really appreciate. I don’t feel the need to be too serious or a perfectionist. I just need to get ink on paper.
This is a print I made recently. The wood type shows its years, with the notch in the L. You can see the difference in the textures of the text as the ink isn’t consistent. Inking the photo electroplate of the Joshua tree took some finesse, but I pulled it off.
Be still.
